Pope Francis recalls attacks in Norway, England, Afghanistan.

Pope Francis assured his prayers for victims of various attacks that took place in the last few days:

After praying the midday Angelus on October 17, he said:

Last week, various attacks took place in Norway, Afghanistan, and England, that caused numerous deaths and wounded many. I express my nearness to the families of the victims.

I beg you to please abandon the path of violence that is always a losing cause and is a defeat for everyone. Let us recall that violence begets violence.

Norway:

A bow-and-arrow attack killed five people in Norway on Wednesday.

Police say that the attack was likely due to the killer’s mental illness.

England:

David Amess, a British lawmaker meeting with constituents, was fatally stabbed on Friday inside a church.

Afghanistan:

An Islamic State suicide bomber killed at least 47 worshippers at a Shiite Muslim mosque in northern Afghanistan on Friday.
