The prayer asks God to grant us lasting joy when we dedicate our lives to him.

Being a Christian can sometimes seem like a grim affair, with all its rules and requirements. Yet, a Christian is called to be a beacon of hope and joy in the world, no matter what difficulty may arise.

Here is a short prayer asking God to grant us “constant gladness” while in his service.

Grant us, we pray, O Lord our God,
the constant gladness of being devoted to you,
for it is full and lasting happiness
to serve with constancy
the author of all that is good.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
God, for ever and ever
