Ask God to grant you a reverence and appreciation of the Bible similar to that of St. Jerome.

St. Jerome immersed himself into the Word of God, studying it intensely for most of his adult life. This gave him a keen understanding, not only of the Bible, but of God and his plan of salvation.

We can all learn from St. Jerome’s love of the Bible, though we don’t always read it as often as we should.

Here is the collect prayer for St. Jerome’s feast day, asking God to help us be sustained by the Bible as St. Jerome was fueled by it.

Almighty, ever-living God,
you endowed Saint Jerome with a deep reverence for Holy Scripture,
which he loved with all his heart.
Sustain us ever more with your word
and help us to find in it the source of life.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
God, for ever and ever.
Amen.
