The singer reflects on how his son's cancer diagnosis changed his perspective and approach to life.

In a recent interview with Red magazine that was reported in People, Michael Bublé discussed how his whole attitude to life changed after his then-3-year-old son, Noah, was diagnosed in 2016 with hepatoblastoma — a rare form of liver cancer.

The crooner explained how his son’s illness “changed me in a big way – it changed what mattered to me, it changed how I saw life.”

He went on to point out that, “For most of my life as an entertainer and, especially on stage, I’d become my alter ego. I’d become the superhero I always wanted to be.”

However, his son’s cancer gave him a sense of reality, as he shared: “Then my wife and I went through this unthinkable thing, and I lost that alter ego.”

While there’s no doubt that something so shattering would have a profound effect on any parent, Bublé also discussed how he manages to keep his relationship strong with his wife, Luisana Lopilato, whom he married in 2011.

More than anything, my wife and I understand that each other’s fulfillment is important … I’m not saying we’re perfect – nobody is – but we both have that understanding.”

He explains that for each spouse to be fulfilled, they need to find the right balance:

‘I won’t be touring for certain months next year because she’ll be filming a movie, and so I’ll be Daddy on set, and then she’ll do the same for me. We don’t care what we do – being together is the goal.”

Thankfully, Noah’s cancer is in remission now, and since his diagnosis the Bublé family has grown in strength and in size, with the couple sharing three other children: Elias, 7; Vida, 4; and their latest arrival, Cielo, who is 5-months-old.
