When a woman opened a dresser left in an alley for garbage collection, she found a newborn baby.

This amazing story happened one day in August 2021, in the Montclare neighborhood in northwestern Chicago. Although it’s not a new story, Mary’s apparent intervention can still warm our hearts.

According to a local ABC news station, at 8:13 a.m. a woman (who wished to remain anonymous) was driving and approached an alley where several items had been left to be picked up by the garbage collectors, including a small chest of drawers. Being thrifty, she had noticed the handles on the drawers and thought to remove and reuse them, so she stopped, went over, and pulled on the drawers. In one of them, she found a tiny baby, wrapped in a rosary.

“I put my finger on the little foot, to just to see he was moving,” the woman told NBC Chicago. “Every time I think about the little details, it just makes me mad. So I’m just gonna focus on the miracle that I was there, and that everybody showed up on time because I was shaking. I was shaking so bad,” she added.

The doctors, who arrived quickly on the scene, estimated the baby’s age at less than a week. His condition initially caused concern, as the boy had vomited, but upon further inspection they declared the baby healthy and not in danger. The newborn was taken to a nearby children’s hospital.

Police officers, who launched an investigation, said the baby was very lucky, as he was found before the dresser was taken away by the garbage truck and he didn’t suffocate from being in a closed drawer on a hot morning. The person who wrapped the rosary around him surely entrusted him to Mary’s care, and the Blessed Mother did her part to have him be found.

No information seems to be publicly available about what happened afterwards to this little baby. Let’s pray that Mary will continue to look after this little one.
